Budgeting for Your Wedding Reception Catering

There are so many elements to consider when selecting your venue, caterer & bar service to stretch your budget as much as possible.

Here are some tips to insure you get the most “bang for your buck” out of your wedding budget.

When working with couples in the planning process I always recommend that they give special consideration to the “fine print” of what is included in services at the venue they select for their wedding reception catering. It is so easy to fall in love with one of our local wineries, historical sites, rustic barns or beautiful parks that you can overlook the bottom line cost of turning this space into your dream reception.

You must also give consideration to the associated additional cost for that beautiful space. Truly understand what will be included in the rental fee for the venue such as the hours the space will be available to you, are tables, chairs, lighting, dance floor, lighting, etc. included in the rental fee or are these items that will be at an additional cost? You can expect to pay anywhere from $1500 for a park setting to $5000 for one of the hot new winery venues in our area. The park setting may seem like a bargain but remember you will need to bring in the tables, chairs, etc. to create your reception space. The winery that costs $5000 may include tables, chairs, linens, china service staffing, etc. so weigh each option carefully. Choose a menu that will fit the style and feel of your wedding

The next step is to select a menu that reflects the best of the season, and is appropriate for the type of “vibe” you want to create for your reception while working within your budget. A formal plated served dinner is the most expensive option and may be appropriate for a formal ballroom wedding but will not work well for an outdoor venue that does not have a kitchen facility available for your caterer to expedite from. Buffet menu format is generally best value for outdoor venues and will create a festive backdrop for your special day.
